Finding Nemo


When is an aquarium not an aquarium? When it's our interactive live data visualisation, used by the world's biggest blue chip companies.

Polecat perform entity and sentiment analysis for global corporations, on data mined from online news, blogs, forums and social media. In other words, they tell big companies what people think about them. The challenge they set us was to design a live data visualisation that showed the results of their analysis ‘at a glance’. We wanted to use a real world metaphor, so using WebGL, ActionScript, and our love of Finding Nemo, we created a 3D aquarium with fish representing positive and negative sentiment. Our virtual fishtanks are now on display at the HQs of Shell, NHS and KPMG.
