What if the skills you learn at school could help you navigate much more than the classroom?

What if the skills you learn at school could help you navigate much more than the classroom?
Working with We Communications, we created a digital home for SkillSetPlus, an educational programme developed for The Open University that helps students discover how the skills they learn show up in real life – from school and friendships to everyday situations.
Designed to make learning feel relevant, accessible and engaging, the platform brings together interactive content, quizzes and resources in one flexible digital experience that can continue to grow over time.
What We Communications needed
We’ve created a number of digital solutions for We Communications, helping bring the educational programmes they develop for their clients to life online.
For SkillSetPlus, the challenge was to create a website that could house and deliver the programme’s content in a way that felt engaging for students, while bringing together two distinct brand identities: The Open University and SkillSetPlus.
It also needed to be more than a static website. As the programme develops, We Communications needs the freedom to create and add new resources and modules without having to start from scratch every time.
Making learning interactive
We designed and built the SkillSetPlus website around the programme’s existing creative, creating a digital experience that balances the visual identity of The Open University with the personality of SkillSetPlus.
At the heart of the experience is a range of educational content designed to help students understand how different skills translate into real-world situations.
We also introduced interactive elements, including a multiple-choice quiz that gives users a more engaging way to explore the subject matter and test their understanding.
Importantly, the quiz is fully editable through the website’s backend CMS, giving We Communications the ability to update questions and answers as the programme evolves – without needing to come back to us for every change.
Built to keep growing
One of the key considerations was making sure the platform could evolve alongside the programme.
Rather than creating a fixed digital experience, we built the website around a flexible, modular content structure. This means We Communications can create and add new resources and modules as they wish, continually expanding the content available to users.
It gives SkillSetPlus a digital platform that can grow with the programme, rather than one that needs to be rebuilt every time there’s something new to share.
The outcome
The result is a flexible digital destination that brings SkillSetPlus to life online, combining educational content with interactive experiences to show students that the skills they develop can have an impact far beyond the classroom.
Built by Kerve for We Communications and The Open University, the platform is now live and provides a foundation for the programme to continue growing – with new resources, modules and interactive content able to be added over time.
Because the best lessons don’t always happen in the classroom.
